How to Create and Keep Good Jobs in Colorado
Economic development is directly linked to a community’s long term health and sustainability. A robust and diverse economy provides employment opportunities for residents, as well as the commercial tax revenue to help pay for essential services.
Economic development programs work to promote a business-friendly environment, resulting in a significantly improved potential to attract new businesses, and retain and grow existing businesses. When a positive environment exists in which businesses and entrepreneurs are able to flourish, the result is a strong and vigorous economy.
Long-Term vs. Short Term Policy
Particularly on the national level, we're all now paying the price for short-term, politically-motivated decisions that work to get politicians elected, but for which we all pay the price in the long run. We need legislators who are willing to make choices that are in the long-term interest of the People, regardless of the outcome at the ballot box.
Our economy thrives primarily through the retention, expansion and recruitment of jobs, new capital investment in the community, visitors and tourists spending money in the Colorado. We don’t just need jobs . . . we need good jobs. . . high paying jobs . . . sustainable jobs that benefit Colorado.
It takes more than low tax rates to attract good jobs. You need a skilled workforce, efficient transportation, a great public education system, a safe community – all the elements of a high quality of life. Because building a sustainable economy does not happen overnight, a long-term perspective is essential to any successful economic development effort.
